Biography
Yelena Patskevich is a local Milwaukee artist who specializes in pastel and oil paint. Yelena was born in Moscow and by age 11, her talents were noticed by her art teacher, who was a professional artist.
Since there was no art school near Yelena's home, the teacher began to personally tutor her and she began participating in Plein Air - type events around Moscow. During this time Yelena applied her skills and imagination to create a variety of paintings, and developed a life-long love for art.
After college Yelena worked as a chemist and had two children, putting her career as an artist on hold. However, she still drew and painted at home during the little free time she had. Yelena arrived in Milwaukee in 2000 and brought her works with her to hang on the walls of her small apartment. Every time someone visited, they would inquire about her paintings, which were very memorable. Soon, family friends and even strangers were offering to buy them and spread the word.
Yelena began to dedicate herself to painting full-time in 2009 and started getting recognition in Milwaukee, inspiring others with her art to this day. To Yelena, painting is more than a hobby, it’s a way of life, and her passion is visible in every brushstroke as she pours her heart into her art. Yelena had one exhibition in Moscow, thirty+ exhibitions in Milwaukee, three in Ohio, two in Chicago and more every year. Yelena has participated in countless Plein Air events and her works can be seen at any given time in multiple libraries, galleries, restaurants and hospitals around Milwaukee as well as online shows. She also offers art classes for kids. Despite selling many of her works, Yelena has given away many to people who were truly moved by them. I would like to select her milestones in Contemporary Art Gallery Online Exhibition 2020 where she won third place for her painting "Milwaukee River October", 15th Annual Bryn Du Art Show in Ohio where she won second place Amateur Category for her painting "Poetic Muse", in juried WRAP Waukesha Creative Art League Exhibition where she won honorable mention for her painting " Virgin Islands". These two achievements took place on 2019 March-May period. In juried WRAP North Shore Academy of Arts Grafton Exhibition where she won Honorable Mention for her painting " Merry Cristmas" and the Koss Family Foundation, Inc. auction where she sold "Milwaukee view from the Height"' painting. These two achievements took place on 2018 March-May period. 0n 2017 she exhibited in Central Library of Milwaukee and received many orders of painting after this exhibition.
Yelena possesses a unique sensitivity to colors and hues, which get incorporated into her art, stating "I perceive a massive array of colors and, while painting, try to express them the same way I see them. Something as simple as a raindrop glows with many shades of blue, yellow and purple. It's through colors, that I pass on my emotions and character to those viewing my work."
